The State of Connecticut Sentencing Commission, Special Committee on Sex Offenders has created a public input survey for Connecticut residents to identify concerns related to sex offender sentencing, the State of Connecticut Sex Offender Registry, and the management and supervision of sex offenders who re-enter the community on probation or parole.
Any identifying information collected in the survey will not be shared and will be kept confidential. Responses will be compiled in a summary report which will assist the committee in making recommendations to the full Sentencing Commission in late 2017 regarding the sentencing and supervision of sex offenders.
The survey itself should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. Survey responses will be accepted through June 2, 2017.
Connecticut General Statutes 54-250 through 54-261 mandate that the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection establish and maintain a central registry of persons who have been convicted of certain sexual offenses and are required to register under the general statutes. Persons who have been arrested or accused of a sex offense listed in Connecticut General Statutes 54-250 through 54-261 are not required to register unless the accusation results in a conviction or a finding of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. This Registry contains only offenders who have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
